Bill Healey hosts a roundtable with four top executives at Hann Casino Resort in the Philippines

The Philippines is known for its growing casino and leisure sectors, particularly in the greater Manila metropolitan area. Casinos, spas and golf are plentiful in the area. We were fortunate to speak with four directors at the new integrated resort, Hann Casino Resort in Clark Freeport, Pampanga.

How have the last 12 months been for DR Gaming Technology™?

All things considered we can’t complain. I think being a global service provider has assisted us significantly in enabling us to weather ‘COVID year 2’ relatively well. Notwithstanding that, when the pandemic hit in early 2020, and during that initial period when lockdowns were the norm, the entire planet was adversely affected; we were always of the view that as a global supplier we would be able to mitigate our exposure to market risks due to our geographical spread, but as we all know that was not the case. Luckily we managed to weather the initial land-based storm, and as jurisdictions started to open we were all able to start generating revenue again.

How have the care and safety provisions the organisation now provides assisted land-based gaming operators from casinos to slot halls during the pandemic?

In its 21 years, Palms Casino Resort has seen its share of ups and downs. Its star-studded opening on Nov. 15, 2001, was a shot in the arm for a Las Vegas that was reeling from the effects on tourism of the Sept. 11 attacks. Owner and creator George Maloof developed the innovative and canny stratagem of marketing to locals weekdays (especially with good slot and video poker values) and to party-hearty California tourists on weekends. It was a formula that succeeded spectacularly, even though the Palms was a healthy jaunt off the Las Vegas Strip. So popular was it that a second tower was opened in 2005 and the Pearl Concert Theater two years later. (There was even a short-lived Playboy Club.)
